Why Importing is good for Local Economy

Why Importing is good for Local Economy

Working in the lash industry I have heard my fair share of opinions on where our lashes are made, and I generally find that the louder the opinion the bigger the opportunity to gain some perspective. So rather than fight out the opinions on Facebook comments in classic troll fashion (insert Harley Quinn Action Scene here) or avoiding them with a well-wrapped piece of hot BS (as if we aren’t tired of being lied to)… here’s some information that will help you understand where things are coming from and why it’s not a sin to have lashes that were made in another country.

I’ll start by using a different industry to set an example. I have been due for a new dining table for a while, but it’s one of those things that have always been last on the list. I finally took the plunge and went over to Harvey Norman a few months ago, and bought myself a swanky new table that I now love entertaining at. It’s comfy, it looks good and it didn’t cost me a fortune. Drawbacks? I had to wait 3 months for it to arrive because it was manufactured in China, and the manufacturing cost was going to an overseas company when our economy needed the income.

Could I have purchased locally? Sure, I could have settled for something that was made locally, but with my price range, I wouldn’t likely have been able to afford a table that was as exquisite as the one I have selected. The one that’s currently sparking joy and helping me create new memories with my family, would have been replaced with a version that looked and felt less like me.

What has that got to do with lashes? Well, everything really. Supply chains globally rely on places like China, Vietnam, and India to produce goods that are sold all over the world. Why? Because production is not just affordable, it is also specialized and many raw materials are also produced by these countries. So, if you are designing a specialty product locally and producing overseas, you generally get a better quality product at a lower price.

There are no places in Australia that manufacture Faux Silk Eyelashes. Even if you wanted to, you’d be hard-pressed to find a factory that supplies them. So let’s look at this from a different angle. Ideally, we would like to purchase Lashes that are 100% Australian made, right? So that means someone experienced, has to invest upwards of a quarter of a million dollars to start a lash factory. They would hire staff locally at between $20-40 an hour, pay insurances on the business and the workers and, pay taxes locally. So this person would be entering a completely unknown market, with huge investment value, and would be producing lashes for 3x more than the cost of an imported set. I don’t see anyone on their way to early retirement with this strategy. Not to mention, the raw materials would still be imported from overseas, so these lashes still wouldn’t be 100% Australian made?

You see, it is easy to look at what companies are not doing when you don’t know what their alternative options are. If you focus on finding the beauty of a company instead, you’ll be able to select one that meets your own needs.

I wouldn’t have been able to start Witchy Lashes if I had to start a factory and produce Australian. Purchasing lashes from overseas have given me the ability to Design Customized Lashes for all of you, so you can feel beautiful no matter your eye shape, face shape, or age. As for the quality, our lashes are being made as per our very strict quality specifications and by a company with over 50 years of eyelash manufacturing experience. Because of this, I can bring you the best quality Magnetic Lashes that are affordable.

We are invested in the Australian market, so we create solutions that are tailored to your needs. We source as much local product as we can, and contribute to the economy by employing staff locally and paying Australian Taxes. Openness and Quality are our core values, and we strive to uphold them in all that we do. Our vision for the future is to continue giving back to the community that we serve and to make industry changes that benefit you and the environment. When you purchase Witchy Lashes, you support this cause.

Best Wishes,

Marcha Van
