Major make-up retailers Sephora and Mecca announced early in July that they would stop selling products containing Mink fur. Whilst this decision should certainly be celebrated, it leaves me feeling a little sombre. This comes right after one of the busiest periods the industry has ever seen.
Covid-19 sure brought about a change in the demand for lashes, with lash extention salons closing down, it opened the flood gates for women in search of an alternative solution. Magnetic lashes were the go to because of how easily they apply, which was awesome news for WitchyLashes, but not so awesome for the Mink population (I won't be going in to graphic details here, you already know or can quickly find out how minks are treated through the hair collection process).
Just so we are clear, all WitchyLashes products are Vegan & Cruelty free, but not all of our competitors can say the same. Two of the biggest Magnetic Lash retailers located in the USA have sold hundeds of thousands of pairs Mink lashes over this Covid-19 period, contributing to the suffering of thousands of these animals. And while Sephora and Mecca have now banned Mink Lashes, these magnetic lash retailers are still cashing in on the mistreatment of animals.
